Lawrence Baynham is Commercial Director at INDO Lighting and heads up the technical and product development departments.
He joined the company in 2011 bringing a real enthusiasm for product design and manufacture and works closely with a team of engineers and consultants from multiple disciplines. He continues to be instrumental in facilitating many of the innovations putting INDO at the forefront of the industry, not least the pioneering work on Direct Drive®.
Lawrence studied at Cambridge University and was awarded an undergraduate QUEST scholarship by the Institute of Civil Engineers, sponsored by lighting designers WSP. He went on to gain a first class degree and Masters in Engineering from Queens’ College, specialising in manufacturing.
After working with WSP in civil engineering, Lawrence decided to follow his passion for manufacturing and joined INDO where he saw many opportunities for cutting edge innovation in the design and development of low energy lighting electronics.
For me, the exciting thing about the lighting industry is the scale in which lighting is used, and therefore the opportunity to make a significant impact on total energy reduction and financial savings. We are seeing a number of innovations in lighting and how it can be used within a smarter, more connected environment and it’s great to be a part of that.
At INDO, development is always a team effort and as a team we have accomplished a lot in terms of developing new and innovative products. I have been particularly pleased with the AIR2 lantern which, uniquely to the industry, utilises Direct Drive technology for powers up to 150W. Added to this, we have included features allowing for dimming and control for Direct Drive; again, developed in-house.
On the research side, I am excited by the innovations that we’re pushing forward, which is reflected by the growing number of patents we have had granted and currently in the pipeline.
I really enjoy watching short videos with thought provoking content, across a range of subject areas.
