Project Detail

Fairweather’s Hilltop Nursery is one of the largest and most experienced growers and suppliers of wholesale Agapanthus plants in Europe. Fairweather’s holds a Collection of more than 350 cultivars of Agapanthus and has collaborated with the Royal Horticultural Society on an Agapanthus trial. Having previously installed LED lighting products from two other reputable manufacturers, Fairweather’s engaged INDO to determine an optimal spectrum to aid root development during the propagation process.

INDO shortlisted three spectra for testing and worked with Fairweather’s to design a trial that ensured that environmental factors were minimised and the optimal spectra could be identified. Following 16 weeks of trial, INDO worked with Fairweather’s to measure the impact that each spectrum had on root growth, by weighing the root mass for each one.

Having identified the optimal spectra, INDO completed a lighting design to establish how the ELEMENT fittings should be mounted to ensure optimal uniformity across the installation. INDO worked with the client to specify a control system that could dim the lighting installation according to the client’s requirements.

We can stick 5 weeks earlier than we previously could the year before, so it’s given us more capacity to grow in this glasshouse
