Tom Baynham is Chairman of INDO Lighting. He co-founded the company in 2007 with a fellow colleague from Cambridge University after both graduated from Queens’ College with Masters Degrees in Manufacturing Engineering.

The business was originally established to supply induction lighting to councils and the commercial sector. However as LED technology continued to develop at pace, Tom quickly shifted the business’ strategic focus to the increasing benefits of LED lighting.  He has overseen exponential company growth and is a great believer in the power of teamwork, smart product innovation and continuous improvement backed by quality engineering and high-level customer service.

Tom is a member of the Institute of Lighting Professionals and sits on the Editorial Board for the Lighting Journal, one of the UK industry’s leading trade publications.  With a keen interest in business and economics, he also sits on a regional Bank of England panel meeting for the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce.

What Tom really likes about the lighting industry

I enjoy the pace at which technology has progressed and at which new products are being developed. I enjoy the challenges that our competition push us to overcome, and the fact that we are able to have a positive impact on our customers and the environment.

2. INDO winning a Queen’s award for innovation
3. Setting up an e-commerce venture which turned over £120K within two weeks of initial concept
